Did you know the GYSheifer….

  • Weighs more than half a tonne, the GYSheifer will pop up at locations across Yorkshire to promote one of England’s biggest and best agricultural shows
  • Made by renowned Yorkshire sculptor Emma Stothard, the 6ft high, 4ft wide, 11ft long sculpture was commissioned by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, organisers of the Great Yorkshire Show
  • This one off, bespoke, life-size sculpture in steel is modelled on the Craven Heifer which was born and bred in Bolton Abbey in the early 1800s.
  • People would pay to see the heifer which toured the country and became a national phenomenon.
  • She remains the largest cow ever shown in England and lived in the same era as the first show.
  • The sculpture project has been months in the planning and involved research with experts at Bolton Abbey Estate as well as support from the Great Yorkshire’s Chief Cattle Steward Margaret Chapman
