Please read this story about Sam… He is the son of one of the team here at Yummy Yorkshire. Sam’s Mum and Dad need to raise funds for this life changing operation to help him walk and we want to raise as much awareness as possible so that they achieve their £35,000 target.
Sam is a six year old boy from West Yorkshire who was born with cerebral palsy, which affects mainly the muscles in his legs, making them so tight and stiff that he cannot stand or walk without adult support. He enjoys school but can feel left out when the other children are playing in the playground, as he cannot really join in or keep up in his little walker. We would really like Sam to walk independently and join in with his school friends.
Sam has been receiving Botox injections in his legs for two years and has been given the chance of having a life changing operation at Leeds General Infirmary.
The operation is called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). This will release the spasticity in Sam’s legs, enabling the muscles to move more freely, which will then allow the muscles to be strengthened with the help of intensive physiotherapy. This would help Sam to be able to stand and walk independently.
The funds raised will go to the general funds of Tree of Hope to assist other sick children if we exceed the target amount or if we do not raise enough funds, or if they cannot be used for any other reason.
